‘LOGONOMICS- Discover Your LQ’, has left us all at Team MIC, to say the least, proud and grinning from ear to ear.
It was a ‘never seen before’ like event in more ways than one.
Not only was this the first ever online competition ever to be organized in the history of Delhi University, but also the response received by it was unprecedented with entries pouring in from all over the city including DU, IITs, IP University, DCE etc.
It was heartening to see logonomics become a kind of new language amongst all the students as during the span of the whole event, in every nook and corner of the college, all one could hear was whisperings about someone’s rising popularity or someone brooding over his dipping vote share.
And all this popularity, mind you, was respect to their entries and votes garnered on facebook!
Round 1: P4L
Our round one of ‘Product for Logo’ was an innovative concept and generated the maximum buzz.
Participants had to choose one logo from the list of ten logos provided by us and give it a completely new dimension and identity. They had to do this by suggesting a new product, tagline and give a description of the product.
The sent in entries were first shortlisted and interesting ones were put online. With all entries coming up with brilliant new ideas, short listing the entries was the toughest job which the team had to face. But adding a lighter side to this tough job were entries like ‘The Second Bite’ sent by Udit Goel ,Sri Venkateshwara College and Preeti Dogra ,KMV; who craftily adopted the Apple Logo for their entry, or the product sent in by Basant Goyal and Jigeesha Nayyar ( both from SSCBS) who used the Reliance logo for a completely new product ‘Asseline’, a nourishing cream! The entries which gathered the maximum number of votes online in the form of likes would proceed for the second round.
This created such a buzz amongst all the participants that the number of votes gained by each entry was a matter of lengthy, heated discussions and garnering votes the latest task. With this round, the creative marketing (and convincing) strategies of students came to fore as everybody was on a veritable drive to earn the maximum number of votes.
Participants did not leave any opportunity to flood the facebook wall and update their status messages with the link of their product.
The popularity of this concept can be beautifully and precisely summed up in a single statement by Ekta Sharma, who later on won the competition-
“I have never sat on facebook for so long nor have I cared about it that much. But now, the first thing which I do when I get up in the morning is check the number of likes my product has received!”
“MIC has caught our imagination like no other society or group has...kudos man. Team MIC is seriously killing it!!!” said
Neil D' Souza, while posting a link to his product & asking for votes right above this post.
Not only this, we also received a highly positive feedback from SSCBS alumni ( Harneet Singh, Aditya Jajodia , Nishtha Anand to name a few)
Well, what can we say, we’re loving it :)
Round 2: LOGOWIZ
After the humongous success of round one, the responsibility of delivering an equally interesting round 2 only increased for us. The second round was held on 21st September in the college itself. Top twenty entries plus five wild card entries were shortlisted (solely on the basis of their entry- the product name, tagline, description and compatibility with logo). This round again was a brainchild of MIC with the popular game of housie being given a ‘logonomical’ twist. Instead of numbers, the housie tickets had logos on them and questions were asked related to those logos. The participants were supposed to strike off the logo which they felt most relevantly matched the given clue.
This was a good opportunity for the teams to add to their score and zoom past their rivals who might have had more number of votes. The initial confusion which is associated with every event was soon put to rest once we started with the questions. Everybody was super engrossed and valiantly exercising each and every brain cell in order to crack the questions.
It was a fun filled round, especially when someone proudly shouted 'early five' or ‘full house’, only to end up as a googly and rival teams not shying away from clearly expressing their relief by loudly clapping and cheering. The teams with the maximum total could proceed for the third round, but it wasn’t as clear cut with five teams ending up on a tie. A competitive tie breaker quiz was then held amongst these teams and the top two teams went ahead for the third round.
Round 3: The Gamble!
The third round tested the calculative side and the risk taking nature of the participants by asking them to gamble their points. This was the ‘make or break’ round as a correctly answered question gained them the number of points gambled whereas a wrongly answered question reduced their score by that number of points.
This game was particularly interesting as the teams which seemed to be the likely winners recklessly gambled away their points and the teams which seemed to lag behind a bit emerged as the front runners by gambling intelligently and taking calculative risks. This was especially true in the case of Team 6 (Akshey Bhanot and Aditya Singh) , who at 225 were clearly lagging behind other teams with scores like 465, 280, and 285 but by gambling intelligently, they managed to score a handsome 365 and walk home with the second position in their kitty.
There were also certain instances when teams, in a bid to quickly add to their score gambled all their points. But as they say, greed never yielded any result was proved beyond point when team 23 and team 13 gambled all in. They were first applauded for their brave move but both teams faced the same fate as both got knocked out. Then also the other teams were applauding, but for themselves! Even team 17 with 270 and team 8 with 285 points in hand seemed likely winners, but got knocked out when they decided to go all in.
Same applies to team 21 (The Second Bite) as well whose scorecard only read southward from 280 to 80. At one point of time, it was almost a neck to neck between team 1 and team 18, with one wrong gambling move marring their chances of winning.
But at the end team 1 with
Chaitanya Hiremath of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and Ekta Sharma of SSCBS bagged the first position,
Team 6, Akshay Bhanot and Aditya Singh, both from SSCBS, with their calculative moves and intelligent gambling bagged the second position and
Team 18 with Gaurav Bhutani and Gauri Mehta from Deen Dayal Upadhaya College bagged the third position.
All in all, it can be said that the second and third round proved as a grand end to a grand event. The kind of response received by LOGONOMICS was unprecedented and hugely encouraging for Team MIC. We would like to thank all the students and participants for making this event such a huge success. With this kind of participation and positive response ensured, MIC is sure to come up with such innovative concepts and fun events in future as well.
Feedback and suggestions for the event and Team MIC are cordially invited at mic.cbs@gmail.com
